Figures are typical ranges for supply and installation in London and the South East. Size, height, finish, access and glass all move the number, which is why the estimate is free.

What moves the price
- Height and number of steps. The rise decides how much steel, how many landings and how big the foundations are. It matters more than width.
- Shape. Straight flights are the most economical. Spirals, quarter-turns with landings, and helical staircases each add fabrication time.
- Finish. Painted steel is the baseline. Galvanising adds a process and a few days; powder coating adds colour choice on top.
- Balustrade and treads. A single handrail is simplest. Glass panels, stainless steel and stone or timber treads set into steel trays are where design cost lives.
- Access and site. A clear site with a level base is quick. Restricted access, scaffold, out-of-hours working and poor ground all add to the installation.

How much does a steel staircase cost in the UK?
A straight external steel staircase of up to 8 steps starts from about £5,000 supplied and fitted. Longer flights with a landing run £6,500 to £9,000, spirals £8,000 to £15,000, internal steel staircases £8,000 to £15,000, and helical or curved feature staircases £15,000 to £40,000. Send your drawings for an exact figure the same day.
How much is a fire escape staircase?
A single-flight fire escape with a landing, built to current regulations, is typically £6,500 to £9,000. A two-storey fire escape with two flights and two landings is usually £18,000 to £30,000, depending on the building, the foundations and the finish.
What does metal balustrade cost per metre?
Vertical bar metal balustrade is £350 to £500 per metre supplied and fitted. Glass and stainless steel balustrade is £400 to £800 per metre depending on the glass and the fixings.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. Estimates on drawings, photos and tender packages are free and come back the same working day. Site surveys, on site or by video, are free too. You only pay for the steelwork you order.
